To revise the notion of commitment (theme chosen for the 2nd IEP 2014 competition), we encourage you to read
works by Jean-Paul Sartre. Jean-Paul Sartre represents the figure of the
the figure of the committed writer, and has himself written a lot about what it means to be
what it means to be “engaged”.
For example, you can read his book Situations II, in which he
writes:
“I will say that a writer is engaged when he tries to take the
the most lucid and the most complete consciousness to be embarked, that is to say
when he makes pass for him and for the others the engagement of the immediate
spontaneity to the reflected ” Jean-Paul Sartre, Situations II
