The virtual image, progress of science? (Sciences Po 2013)

What about new technologies such as television? This progress of science, of technique, is it really a good news for the human being? for the human being?
Paul Virilio brings an answer in the review Le Monde de l’éducation, of July-August 2001. For him:
“The virtual image, it is the machine which sees, which feels in your place and liquidates you as an active being in favor of a passive being.” This virtual image, represented in the first place in our time by the television, would thus take part to deaden the proactive force of the man, to make it passive. Paul Virilio is known for his essays on the speed, the technology, the urbanism and architecture.
