French law – The branches of public law

Public law governs the rules relating to the Organization of the state and the relationship of individuals to the state.

A. Constitutional law

Constitutional law concerns the higher organs of the state, it is the law that governs the government and the public authorities.

B. Administrative Law

Administrative law concerns the lower organs of the State, it is the law that governs the organization and functioning of public administrations as well as the relations between individuals and public authorities.

It intervenes at all levels: State, regions, departments, commune…

C. Public finance law

Fiscal law concerns the expenditures and resources of public entities: taxes, State expenditures, public services, etc.

D. Public international law

Public international law concerns the relations between different states and the functioning of international relations.
