Revenge and justice

22 November 2023

“As one grows older, one realizes that revenge is still the surest form of justice.”
Henry Becque in Thoughts (1837–1899)

Hegel distinguished between justice and punishment, saying that revenge is reparation obtained by an act of the injured party, while punishment is the work of a judge.

“Revenge is a savage justice,” said Francis Bacon
