More than half the world lives in cities

Globally, one in two people has been living in Cities since 2008. This is what theUN estimates:

“2008 will mark the first year in human history when more than half the world’s population resides in cities.”

TheUN organization also reminds us of the problems of housing:

According to the State of the World’s Human Settlements Report, published in March 1996 by the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat), there are currently about 500 million homeless or inadequately housed urban dwellers in the world.

The three countries that will be driving the world’s demographics the most through 2050 are India, China and Nigeria.

The five most populated cities are currently:

  1. Tokyo
  2. New Delhi
  3. Shanghai
  4. Mexico City
  5. São Paolo
