Socio-professional categories and educational results

Is there a correlation between socio-professional affiliation and academic outcomes?

The survey conducted by INSEE reveals in any case profound differences according to the occupation and sociological category of the parents.

The grades in French and maths correspond to the average score obtained by the children, out of a total score of 100.

Data from INSEE

Several lessons can be drawn from these data:

  • Socio-professional category has a strong influence on school results as early as the sixth grade
  • The difference between the results obtained by managers and workers is 1.26 in French and 1.27 in mathematics.
