Free culture in France

In 2009, Nicolas Sarkozy announced a series of measures in favor of the cultural sector in Nîmes on Tuesday, January 13, during his “vœux à la culture”. Culture is on the program of the Sciences Po 2014.

Exceptional measure: free admission to the 50 national museums for young people under 25 and teachers.

Today, free culture in French museums

Louvre
The Louvre was declared free to 18-25-year-olds in the EU in 2009.

Who are concerned?
All young people aged 18 to 25 inclusive (under 26) who are long-term residents of one of the 27 countries of the European Union.

How to benefit from the offer of the culture today:
An ID or passport, and if necessary a residence card or visa or student card.

The measure came into effect on Saturday, April 4, 2009.

Future of the cultural offer of the free national museums in France

The measure is only temporary. However, it was renewed for 3 additional years on December 16, 2011, by Luc Chatel, Minister of National Education, and Frédéric Mitterrand, Minister of Culture.
